The Basilica Cathedral Notre Dame de la Treille from Lille

Majestueusement and proudly anchored in the heart of the old town of Lille, the building owes its origin with Mgr Régnier, who was archbishop of Cambrai, in order to shelter the statue of the Virgin (the only vestige from the old Saint Pierre's Collegial ransacked in 1304 per Philippe le Bel during the city's invasion).

Of neo-gothic style, the monument will be finished in 1874, and that is in 1913 that the vatican created the diocese of Lille. The Pope Pie X proclaims the basilica as a Cathedral in 1914.

Recently finished and equipped with its new gate, the Cathedral is getting a real renewal of enthusiasm and frequentation.

. Celebrations and Sunday celebration bring together large assemblies (2000 people for great ceremonies)

. more and more visitors of all horizons and all nationalities are coming daily in order to admire the interior beauty  made from a warm and luminous simplicity

. the basilica cathedral profits from a superb development of its architectural treasures (Chapel of Notre Dame de la Treille, mosaics, stained-glass image, museum of contemporary sacred art....)

. an alive heart attracting as well for worship plan as for the cultural plan.

. Since 1869, a warm and noble voice is participating at all the events, The voice of the organ Cavaillé-coll which became, in the memories, the sound of the Cathedral.
